Mark Rydell is an American artist, producer and director known for his work in the movie theater. He was born on March 23, 1929 in New York City. Rydell graduated from the Professional Children's School and studied at the Actors Studio. His major motion picture debut was in The Rose (1979), starring Bette Midler. He also directed such films as On Golden Pond (1981) and The River (1984). Furthermore, Rydell was nominated for a Best Director Oscar for his work in The Fox (1967). His other notable works include The Cowboys (1972), Interiors (1978), The Competition (1980), and Cadillac Man (1990).
