Long Table Table is an innovative architectural installation and outdoor furniture design that reimagines public space interaction within an office park setting in Shanghai. Created by architect Wei Zhou and team in 2015, this distinctive street furniture concept transforms a central square surrounded by four buildings into an engaging outdoor lobby experience. The design features a continuous terrazzo table structure with varying heights from 1100mm to 4000mm, maintaining a consistent width of 360mm that accommodates laptop placement while facilitating diverse social interactions. Drawing inspiration from traditional Chinese village banquet customs, where long tables serve as gathering points for extended communal activities, this architectural intervention creates a fluid transition between indoor and outdoor spaces. The sophisticated integration of stainless steel with terrazzo not only ensures durability but also establishes a tactile connection to familiar traditional craftsmanship. The design's undulating form, spanning across a 618-square-meter venue, creates multiple engagement zones for working, resting, and group discussions, while strategically placed trees provide natural shade and define gathering areas. This Bronze A' Design Award-winning project in the Street and City Furniture Design category exemplifies how architectural elements can transcend conventional boundaries to create dynamic social spaces that enhance workplace environments, combining functionality with artistic expression while promoting flexible and comfortable user interactions in public spaces.
