There are two types of lighting ballasts: magnetic and electronic. Magnetic ballasts use a core and coil transformer to regulate the voltage and current supplied to the lamp. They are less expensive than electronic ballasts, but they are also less efficient and produce more heat. Electronic ballasts, on the other hand, use solid-state circuitry to regulate the voltage and current supplied to the lamp. They are more expensive than magnetic ballasts, but they are also more efficient, produce less heat, and provide better lamp performance. Lighting ballasts are available in different sizes and configurations to match the specific requirements of different lamps and lighting systems. They can be designed for use with one or multiple lamps, and they can be mounted inside or outside the lamp fixture. Some ballasts are also dimmable, allowing users to adjust the brightness of the lamps to suit their needs. In recent years, there has been a shift towards the use of electronic ballasts, as they are more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly than magnetic ballasts. Electronic ballasts also offer more advanced features, such as instant start, flicker-free operation, and the ability to operate lamps at higher frequencies, which can reduce the amount of visible flicker and improve color rendering.
