Light Design Center Speyer, Germany Lighting Exhibition and Shop is an innovative architectural and interior design project that transformed a factory building into a sophisticated exhibition space, consulting area, and meeting place for showcasing contemporary lighting technologies and designs. The 300-square-meter facility, completed in 2011 in the greater Frankfurt area, features a distinctive design concept inspired by the natural phenomenon of a twister, creating a dynamic and engaging spatial experience. The centerpiece of the design is an organically shaped 3D twister sculpture that floats in the air above a reception desk crafted from rusted steel, both elements following a spiral upward movement that begins in the two-dimensional floor pattern. The space comprises a main exhibition room with a 6-meter height, an integrated gallery, an office wing, and an entrance hall with conference facilities. The material palette emphasizes raw, industrial elements including untreated steel, polished concrete with color additives, and rusted steel plates, while the color scheme deliberately utilizes non-colors such as white, anthracite, and gray to allow the exhibited lighting pieces to generate all color accents within the space. A unique feature of the design is the use of Norwegian Army camouflage netting as a visual divider between the showroom and gallery. The project, which won a Bronze A' Design Award in Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, demonstrates exceptional spatial organization and innovative use of materials while maintaining focus on its primary function as a showcase for lighting design.
