Conte Candoli was an American jazz trumpeter and composer who left a significant mark on the jazz scene of the 20th century. He was born on July 12, 1927, in Mishawaka, Indiana, and began playing the trumpet at an early age. Candoli's talent was quickly recognized, and he was soon playing with some of the biggest names in jazz. Conte Candoli (1927-2001) was an American Jazz trumpeter and composer born in Mishawaka, Indiana. He made his debut with the big band of Stan Kenton in 1948, and established himself as one of the most sought-after trumpeter/cornetist in the business. He collaborated with many jazz greats such as Ella Fitzgerald, Quincy Jones, Paul Desmond and Benny Goodman. He was considered one of the architects of west coast jazz, having written many compositions and arrangements. His most notable works include “Friday Nite”, “Explosions”, “Trifecta”, and “Four Brothers”. Conte Candoli was known for his lyrical, hard-swinging approach to playing the trumpet. His improvisational solos were considered to be outstanding and he was widely respected for his perfect intonation.
