Bahman Ghobadi is a globally acclaimed Iranian director, producer, and screenwriter, who’s known for tackling social issues through his films. Born in 1969 in Baneh, Iran, Ghobadi was exposed to art and film at a young age, and studied engineering in Tehran. His early works, including Time for Drunken Horses (2000) and Turtles Can Fly (2004), were praised by critics and helped Ghobadi to gain international recognition, becoming one of the most notable Iranian filmmakers of his time. In addition to his films, Ghobadi created a theater in Tehran, titled ‘Dastan’, which focused on showcasing films and stories from different countries and regions. He also helped to found Mij Film, a company which produces films in Iran and elsewhere. Bahman Ghobadi’s work is easily recognisable, as he often covers topics such as the struggles of minorities, the consequence of war and the effects of displacement.
