Athletic Supporters

Athletic supporters, also known as jockstraps, are specialized undergarments designed to provide support and protection to the male genitalia during physical activity. They consist of a waistband, a protective pouch for the genitals, and two straps that run from the waistband to the base of the buttocks, leaving the buttocks exposed. The pouch is typically made of a stretchy material such as cotton or spandex, and may feature a hard plastic cup for added protection. Athletic supporters are commonly worn by male athletes participating in contact sports such as football, hockey, and baseball, as well as by weightlifters and other athletes engaging in strenuous physical activity. The primary function of the athletic supporter is to prevent testicular torsion, a painful twisting of the testicles that can occur during physical activity. The pouch of the supporter holds the testicles in place, reducing the risk of injury. In addition to providing support and protection, athletic supporters may also help to reduce chafing and discomfort during physical activity. They are typically worn underneath other athletic clothing such as shorts or pants, and may be worn alone or in combination with other protective gear such as shin guards or helmets. While athletic supporters are primarily designed for male athletes, there are also female-specific versions available that provide support and protection for the female genitalia. These are typically referred to as pelvic protectors or pelvic cups.
