Andaman Resort is an architecturally distinctive hospitality establishment located in Xinchang, China, that masterfully integrates traditional Hui-style aesthetics with contemporary design sensibilities. The resort, spanning 376 square meters with a total interior design area of 1,128 square meters across three floors, exemplifies a sophisticated interpretation of Jiangnan ink painting aesthetics through its striking black and white color palette. Designed by Kyan Foo, with interior design by Yuzi Zhou and visual design by Sophia Rou, the resort's architectural composition demonstrates a thoughtful separation between social and private spaces, with the ground floor dedicated to public interactions and the upper levels housing themed accommodation areas. The design draws profound inspiration from the surrounding Nineteen Peaks Scenic Area, incorporating natural elements and local architectural vernacular into its aesthetic vocabulary. The resort's interior spaces feature innovative use of microcement paint to create simple textures that harmonize with the natural surroundings, while floor-to-ceiling glass installations in the waiting and breakfast areas create an expansive, unobstructed visual connection to the environment. The project, completed in October 2022, showcases sophisticated traffic flow management with separate circulation patterns for staff and guests, ensuring optimal operational efficiency. This innovative approach to hospitality design earned recognition at the A' Design Award competition, receiving the Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, acknowledging its excellence in spatial organization, material selection, and cultural integration.
