11 K Vaks Week End House is an exemplary contemporary weekend residence that masterfully integrates architectural innovation with its natural surroundings, situated on the outskirts of Pune, India. This sophisticated architectural achievement, designed by Ketan Jawdekar, spans 450 square meters across a one-acre plot and draws profound inspiration from the surrounding paddy fields, embodying the minimalist principle of Less is More. The structure's ingenious design capitalizes on the site's natural topography, featuring three distinct split levels that create a harmonious progression of spaces while maintaining visual connectivity throughout. The residence demonstrates exceptional environmental consciousness through its incorporation of rainwater harvesting systems and underground water storage facilities that integrate seamlessly with the natural groundwater. The house's thoughtful layout includes an entry level comprising a porch, living area, dining space, open kitchen, children's room, and pool deck, while the upper level houses the master bedroom and the lower level accommodates a mother's suite. A central courtyard serves as a ventilation core, enhancing the building's natural airflow. The design's most striking feature is its strategic revelation of the Khadakwasla backwaters view, concealed from the entrance and dramatically unveiled upon reaching the living area, where the infinity pool creates an illusion of merger with the distant waters. This Bronze A' Design Award-winning project, completed in 2014, successfully fulfilled complex requirements including the integration of 450 trees and the creation of multi-generational living spaces, while maintaining an elegant architectural language characterized by clean lines and horizontal planes.
