Apartment 24 Residential Space

Apartment 24 Residential Space is a meticulously reconstructed residential interior located in a 1970s Yugoslav modern architectural dwelling in central Belgrade, exemplifying innovative spatial transformation and contemporary design sensibilities. The project, designed by architect Ivana Lukovic, demonstrates a sophisticated approach to adaptive reuse, expanding the original 97-square-meter space to 110 square meters through the strategic implementation of a new metal construction system integrated with existing concrete columns and perimeter walls. The design philosophy emphasizes spatial transparency and natural illumination, featuring eleven distinctive light wells and two double-height transitional spaces that incorporate greenery, creating a harmonious interplay between light and carefully selected materials. The material palette draws inspiration from 1970s nostalgia, incorporating walnut veneer, white oiled marine birch plywood, and white cement terrazzo created in situ, establishing a contemplative atmosphere that bridges historical context with contemporary functionality. The renovation encompasses significant technical improvements, including triple-glazed windows, mineral wool insulation, and halogen-free cabling for enhanced fire protection, while the heating system utilizes natural gas through aesthetically considered radiators. The project, which earned recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, represents a significant achievement in residential interior architecture, successfully addressing complex technical and logistical challenges within a dense urban environment while creating a sustainable, sensory-rich living environment that honors the space's emotional heritage while embracing modern design principles.
