Ángel Ferrant

Ángel Ferrant was a Spanish sculptor who played a significant role in the development of modern sculpture in Spain during the first half of the 20th century. He was born in Madrid in 1890 and studied at the Escuela de Bellas Artes de San Fernando. Ferrant's early works were influenced by the classical tradition, but he soon began to experiment with new forms and materials. He was particularly interested in the use of iron and other industrial materials in sculpture, which was a relatively new concept at the time. Ferrant's work was characterized by a strong sense of movement and dynamism. He was interested in capturing the energy and vitality of the modern world, and his sculptures often featured abstract forms and geometric shapes. One of his most famous works is The Screaming Statue, which depicts a figure in motion with its mouth open in a silent scream. This sculpture is a powerful expression of the anxiety and tension of the modern age. Ferrant was also a committed socialist and his work often reflected his political beliefs. He believed that art should be accessible to everyone and that it should serve a social purpose. He was a member of the Spanish Communist Party and his work was often exhibited at political rallies and demonstrations. Despite his political beliefs, Ferrant's work was widely admired by both critics and the public. He received numerous awards and honors during his lifetime, including the National Prize for Fine Arts in 1950. Today, his work can be found in museums and public spaces throughout Spain.
