Zoe Shen Stylist Studio Interior Design

Zoe Shen Stylist Studio Interior Design is a thoughtfully executed interior design project that transforms a traditional sanheyuan (three-sided courtyard house) into a contemporary private studio space located at the foot of Baguashan Scenic Area in Changhua City, Taiwan. This 116-square-meter renovation project, completed in March 2016, masterfully preserves the authentic architectural heritage of traditional Fujian Province style while adapting it for modern use as a makeup and floral design studio. The design, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, demonstrates exceptional sensitivity to historical preservation and contemporary functionality. Designer Ting-Yan Chen's approach emphasizes minimal intervention, maintaining original architectural elements such as the characteristically low doorways (170-180 cm height and 65-75 cm width) that require visitors to bow upon entering, creating an experiential connection to traditional countryside living. The interior space features a harmonious blend of vintage furniture, personal collections, and abundant plant life, including dried flowers that create a warm, unique atmosphere. A notable innovation in the design is the construction of a separate entrance through the side wing's small garden, effectively delineating public and private spaces. The project exemplifies sustainable design practices through its preservation of naturally aged wooden doors and the use of recycled wood for furniture, maintaining authenticity while promoting environmental consciousness. The studio's design successfully honors familial memory while creating a functional contemporary space, demonstrating how historical architecture can be respectfully adapted for modern professional use.
