Zenyth Hubless Longboard
Zenyth Hubless longboard is an innovative transportation design concept that revolutionizes traditional skateboard architecture through its distinctive hubless wheel system and sophisticated aesthetic approach. This groundbreaking design, created by Nicholas Perillo, features a swept, rising deck crafted from Canadian Maple veneers and American Walnut face veneers, complemented by a meticulously hand-cut parquetry inlay of Tasmanian Oak. The longboard's most distinctive feature is its centerless wheel system, which transforms a typically functional element into a striking visual focal point, drawing inspiration from science fiction aesthetics and contemporary hubless bike designs. Measuring 1250mm in length, 265mm in width, and 170mm in height, the board incorporates precision-engineered aluminum components manufactured through 3-axis CNC milling, with custom-cast flexible polyurethane resin tires. The design's functionality matches its visual appeal, featuring an adapted pivot system that maintains familiar handling characteristics while offering enhanced shock absorption through its flexible urethane construction and larger wheel diameter, enabling smooth navigation over varied terrain. The project, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in the Vehicle, Mobility and Transportation Design category, represents a significant advancement in longboard design, combining innovative engineering with refined craftsmanship. Its sophisticated construction process involves steam-bent wood, vacuum pressing techniques, and precision metalwork, resulting in a harmonious blend of technical innovation and artistic expression that challenges conventional skateboard design paradigms.
