YRH_CT Coffee Table

YRH_CT Coffee Table

YRH_CT Coffee Table is an innovative furniture design that reimagines the ubiquitous location icon commonly found in digital mapping applications as a functional piece of contemporary furniture. Created by Jeffrey Day in 2016, this distinctive coffee table features a circular top with a diameter of 812mm and stands at a height of 380mm, incorporating a unique bowl feature that adds both visual interest and practical functionality to its surface. The design cleverly translates the two-dimensional location marker into a three-dimensional form, making a playful yet sophisticated statement about our hyper-connected society while maintaining its practical purpose as a coffee table. The piece showcases exceptional attention to detail in its construction, utilizing Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machining technology to achieve precise routing of the thick top slab. The table's base features strategically offset legs that not only provide stability for the squared-off corner but also serve as an intentional design element that complements the overall aesthetic. This furniture piece, which earned recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2017, demonstrates a thoughtful balance between conceptual design and functional furniture, effectively bridging the gap between digital iconography and physical space. The design's success lies in its ability to transform a familiar digital symbol into a tangible, functional object while maintaining clean lines and contemporary appeal, making it particularly relevant in modern interior settings where technology and traditional furniture forms intersect.
