Yo Yo Bench By Rodanthi Senduka Environmentally Friendly Bench
Yo Yo bench by Rodanthi Senduka Environmentally friendly bench is an innovative and environmentally conscious urban furniture design that masterfully combines artistic expression with sustainable functionality. Created in 2010, this distinctive bench design draws inspiration from youth culture and contemporary communication, cleverly incorporating the word YoYo - a creative abbreviation of YOU and a reference to the casual greeting Yo - into its structural form, making it readable from both frontal and aerial perspectives. The bench is constructed using Oriented Strand Board (OSB), a sustainable material composed of compressed recycled wood pulp, demonstrating a strong commitment to environmental responsibility while maintaining exceptional durability and weather resistance. This eco-friendly urban furniture piece, which earned the Silver A' Design Award in the Street and City Furniture Design category, represents a significant advancement in sustainable design practices. The bench's unique typographic form serves both aesthetic and functional purposes, creating an engaging visual element in public spaces while providing comfortable seating. Launched in Athens, Greece, at the etsi for environment exhibition at Michalis Cacoyannis Foundation, the design successfully bridges the gap between practical urban furniture and artistic expression, featuring custom artwork by artist Harry Lambert that enhances its visual appeal. The bench's innovative design approach not only promotes environmental consciousness but also encourages social interaction and community engagement through its distinctive form and sustainable materials.
