Xuzhou International Academic Center is a distinguished architectural and interior design project spanning 78,000 square meters, masterfully integrating cultural heritage with contemporary design principles. Conceived and executed by Yi Shi and team between 2018 and 2019, this innovative space draws inspiration from the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, Maritime Silk Road, and rich Han culture of Xuzhou. The design philosophy centers on creating a harmonious blend of material and spiritual culture, featuring thoughtfully evolved elements from the region's five province thoroughfare port history, including artistic interpretations of lifting equipment and container arrangements. The interior spaces showcase a sophisticated interplay of warm wood tones and natural stone textures, complemented by flexible wave-colored soft furnishings that create an inviting atmosphere. The banquet center, designed around the principles of gathering, communication, and sharing, incorporates irregular wall arrangements that enable flexible space combinations while maintaining architectural grandeur. The project's guest rooms embody a design concept emphasizing natural colors and homely warmth, successfully merging classic concepts with local characteristics. The center's innovative approach to cultural integration and spatial design earned recognition with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, acknowledging its excellence in creating spaces that foster community connection and cultural exchange while maintaining functional versatility and aesthetic sophistication.
