WuliEpoch Culture Center Culture Center is an innovative architectural and interior design project located in Shijingshan, Beijing, that masterfully combines cultural spaces with commercial functionality. This Gold A' Design Award-winning project, designed by Yingfan Zhang and Xiaojun Bu, encompasses 1500 square meters of sales center and a 400-square-meter community skating rink, serving as a response to the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. The design ingeniously addresses the challenges of a triangular site through a sophisticated arrangement of three axes that divide the street frontage, creating varied scales of landscape and courtyard spaces. The architectural composition features a distinctive spiral ramp system that seamlessly connects multiple programmatic elements, including an urban exhibition hall, tea bar, and skating rink, culminating in VIP facilities and exhibition areas on the second floor. The project's materiality is expressed through meticulously proportioned masonry walls throughout both architecture and landscape, creating a unified aesthetic that imparts historical gravitas. The design philosophy draws inspiration from religious ambience and ritual significance, incorporating these elements through a revolving circulation logic that enables visitors to experience the Western Hills backdrop in an innovative manner. The project's sophisticated response to site constraints is achieved through stacked layers of curved walls that create intermediate spaces and suspended horizontal walls, while the seamless transition between interior and exterior spaces demonstrates exceptional spatial fluidity. The integration of Building Information Modeling (BIM) methodology facilitated efficient problem-solving throughout the construction process, resulting in a cohesive architectural solution that successfully combines cultural programming with commercial requirements.
