Wuhan Wushang Mall Cinema 9F Cinema
Wuhan Wushang Mall Cinema 9F Cinema is an innovative interior design project that revolutionizes the traditional cinema experience through its distinctive conceptual approach inspired by the nostalgic elements of classic film projection. Located in Wuhan, China, this 2,660-square-meter space, completed in 2017, showcases a remarkable ceiling installation featuring massive 2.8-meter diameter round plates that create an immersive visual narrative reminiscent of rotating film reels. Designed by Ajax Law and Virginia Lung, the cinema's architectural composition masterfully integrates form and function, employing sophisticated engineering solutions to suspend the substantial ceiling elements while concealing necessary infrastructure. The design incorporates carefully selected materials, including aluminum panels with wood-pattern finishes that comply with local fire regulations while maintaining aesthetic integrity. The auditorium space is particularly noteworthy for its innovative acoustic treatment, featuring brown disc-shaped sound-absorbing panels that cover both ceiling and walls, creating an illusion of film reels in motion while serving essential acoustic functions. This groundbreaking design, which earned the Platinum A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, demonstrates exceptional creativity in transforming a technical inspiration into a contemporary architectural statement, effectively bridging the gap between cinema's analog heritage and its digital present through sophisticated spatial design.
