Wonderland Exhibition
Wonderland Exhibition is an innovative interior design project that reimagines traditional Chinese aesthetics within a contemporary exhibition space, created by designer Chengzhe Zhang. This transformative installation, which garnered the Silver A' Design Award in Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, masterfully bridges the gap between industrialized urban environments and natural landscapes. The exhibition's conceptual foundation draws inspiration from Ming dynasty painter Qiu Ying's Taoyuan Wonderland, interpreting classical Chinese landscape painting principles through modern design elements. The space features a dramatic 10-meter-high central area, complemented by an intricate suspended glass art installation comprising over 5,000 manually installed pink-white peach petals, each crafted to different specifications to create a dynamic temporal narrative. The design methodology employs sophisticated spatial planning, incorporating gray slate walls that guide visitors through carefully orchestrated sight lines, revealing functional areas including conference spaces, exhibition zones, and tea rooms in a measured sequence. The project's distinctive approach to traditional Chinese spatial concepts is evident in its interpretation of the triple-concept perspective common in landscape painting, utilizing geometric hollow screens and floor-standing bookshelves to create subtle light-shadow interplays. Completed in 2018 in Shanghai, the exhibition space represents a significant achievement in cultural preservation and modern spatial design, demonstrating how traditional concepts of Taoyuan space can be successfully translated into contemporary living environments. The project's innovative use of materials, thoughtful integration of artistic elements, and careful consideration of visitor experience exemplify excellence in exhibition design, earning recognition through the prestigious A' Design Award competition.
