Wonder Box Living Space

Wonder Box Living Space is an innovative architectural interior design solution that revolutionizes spatial organization in compact urban living environments. This transformative design concept, created by William Chan, represents a sophisticated approach to maximizing living space through a centralized multifunctional structure. The core element is a large-scale installation measuring 9000mm in length, 2400mm in width, and 1900mm in height, which serves as the architectural nucleus of a 969-square-foot residential flat. The design's distinguishing feature is its 'floating' aesthetic, achieved through careful material selection including natural cement screed, glossy laminate, and satin stainless steel finishes, creating an illusion of expanded space through light reflection. The Wonder Box extends from the kitchen to the sleeping zone, ingeniously concealing essential facilities including bathrooms, wardrobes, storage spaces, and entertainment systems while maintaining visual continuity throughout the home. The design's sophistication is further enhanced by integrated tube lighting beneath the structure, creating dramatic nighttime illumination. The project demonstrates exceptional space optimization through the strategic removal of conventional bedroom walls and implementation of six large sliding panels that function as privacy screens, enabling dynamic control of space, light, and ventilation. This groundbreaking design, which won the Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, exemplifies how thoughtful architectural intervention can transform confined urban living spaces into expansive, functional environments that enhance daily living experiences while maintaining aesthetic excellence.
