Wistful Man Diary Translated Iranian Poetry
Wistful Man Diary Translated Iranian Poetry is an innovative literary and design project that seamlessly combines traditional Iranian poetry with contemporary book design, created by Armenian designer Edik Boghosian. This distinctive work consists of 365 carefully selected Iranian poems translated into Armenian, with an additional poem included for leap years, presented in a format that functions both as a daily poetry companion and a cohesive love story narrative. The design demonstrates exceptional attention to cultural heritage, featuring a cover inspired by 19th-century Iranian book title pages and miniature floral decorative ornaments, while the hand-painted shiny blue ink pays homage to traditional Iranian architectural tiles. The book's physical design incorporates Coptic binding, an ancient traditional method that enhances its appeal as a cultural artifact, while its compact dimensions of 10.5x14cm make it perfectly portable as a daily companion. The minimalist layout emphasizes the content's significance, allowing readers to engage with the poetry through random daily selections or as a complete anthology. This limited edition of 366 copies combines offset printing for interior pages with hot foil and hand-coloring techniques for the cover, creating a semi-handmade piece that bridges historical and contemporary design approaches. The project, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in the Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design category, represents a significant achievement in cultural preservation and modern book design, demonstrating how traditional elements can be thoughtfully adapted for contemporary audiences while maintaining their cultural integrity.
