West Suburban Elegance Display Center is an architecturally significant display center located in Sijing Town, Shanghai, that masterfully blends traditional Chinese garden design principles with contemporary architectural elements. Completed in 2020, this innovative structure spans 3,300 square meters of land area with 600 square meters of floor space, exemplifying a harmonious integration of historical context and modern functionality. The design philosophy centers on preserving local architectural heritage while creating an immersive spatial experience through the implementation of traditional Suzhou garden techniques reinterpreted in a modern context. The center's distinctive features include a sophisticated arrangement of juxtaposed clustered spaces, incorporating both flat and sloped roofs to maximize spatial volume and ceiling height while maintaining aesthetic cohesion. The visitor journey is carefully choreographed, beginning at the Mountain Gate and proceeding through a series of thoughtfully designed spaces including a grille walkway, reception area, and water courtyard, all connected through principles of traditional Chinese garden design such as borrowed landscapes, scale variations, and level coordination. The project, which earned a Golden A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, demonstrates exceptional achievement in sustainable design through its use of vitrified materials and innovative space planning that accommodates both display and functional requirements without necessitating future modifications. The architectural composition employs simple sheet walls at the entrance facade and features concave slope tops, creating a contemporary interpretation of classical design elements while maintaining the original building's architectural integrity.
