Weather-board
Weather-board is a type of exterior cladding used in the construction of buildings, particularly in residential homes. It consists of long, narrow boards that are typically made from timber or fiber cement and are installed horizontally on the exterior walls of a structure, overlapping each other to create a weather-resistant barrier. The primary purpose of weather-board is to protect the building from the elements, such as rain, wind, and sun, while also providing an aesthetically pleasing appearance. The boards are designed to allow water to run off the surface, preventing it from penetrating the walls and causing damage to the structure. Weather-board cladding has been used for centuries, with early examples dating back to the 18th century in Australia and New Zealand, where it was commonly used in the construction of colonial-style homes. Over time, various profiles and styles of weather-board have been developed, ranging from the traditional overlapping boards to more modern, interlocking designs. The installation process involves fixing the boards to the wall framing, ensuring that they are properly aligned and sealed to prevent water infiltration. Weather-board cladding requires regular maintenance, such as painting or staining, to protect the wood from deterioration and maintain its appearance. Despite the emergence of newer cladding materials, weather-board remains a popular choice for many homeowners due to its classic look, durability, and relatively low cost compared to other options like brick or stone
