Wangchun Church

Wangchun Church is an exemplary architectural and interior design project completed in 2019, situated at No. 687, Xijiao Road in the Haishu District of Ningbo, China. This sacred space, encompassing 620 square meters, represents a masterful integration of spiritual architecture with natural surroundings, positioned thoughtfully within a park setting alongside a peaceful river. Designed by Suping Zhuo, the church embodies a harmonious blend of architectural purity and spiritual tranquility, drawing inspiration from Psalms 1:3 which likens faithful individuals to trees planted by streams of water. The design philosophy emphasizes simplicity and sanctity through the careful selection of materials including wood veneer, wood silk board, latex paint, stainless steel, and stone, creating an atmosphere of reverence and contemplation. The architectural language employs symmetrical structures and manipulates natural light to evoke a profound sense of solemnity within the space. The project, which earned recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, demonstrates exceptional achievement in spatial planning, material selection, and atmospheric design. The church's interior design deliberately minimizes decorative elements, instead relying on the interplay of light and shadow, along with the inherent beauty of natural materials, to create a sacred environment that facilitates spiritual connection and peaceful reflection. This approach to religious architecture exemplifies how contemporary design principles can be applied to create spaces that serve both spiritual and aesthetic purposes while maintaining respect for traditional religious architectural values.
