Wallboard Joint Tape

Wallboard joint tape, also known as drywall tape, is a type of adhesive tape used to cover the joints between sheets of drywall or plasterboard. It is an essential component of the drywall installation process, as it helps to create a smooth, seamless surface that is ready for painting or wallpapering. Wallboard joint tape is typically made from a thin, flexible material, such as paper or fiberglass, that is coated with a strong adhesive on one side. To use wallboard joint tape, the installer first applies a layer of joint compound to the joint between two sheets of drywall. The tape is then pressed into the wet compound, ensuring that it is fully embedded and there are no air pockets. Once the tape is in place, another layer of joint compound is applied over the top, smoothing it out with a trowel or putty knife. This process is repeated several times, with each layer of joint compound being wider than the last, until the joint is completely covered and smooth. There are several different types of wallboard joint tape available, including paper tape, fiberglass tape, and mesh tape. Paper tape is the most common type, and is generally used for flat joints and inside corners. Fiberglass tape is stronger and more durable than paper tape, and is often used for outside corners and areas that are prone to cracking. Mesh tape is a newer type of tape that is made from a self-adhesive fiberglass mesh, and is designed to be easier to apply than traditional tape. Overall, wallboard joint tape is an essential component of any drywall installation. It helps to create a smooth, seamless surface that is ready for finishing, and ensures that the joints between sheets of drywall are strong and durable.
