Waki One Belpark Mall Japanese Yakiniku Restaurant
Waki One Belpark Mall Japanese Yakiniku Restaurant is an award-winning interior design project that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of traditional Japanese architectural elements with contemporary dining experiences. Located in Jakarta, Indonesia, this monochromatic restaurant design draws profound inspiration from two iconic Japanese spatial concepts: the majestic Arashiyama Bamboo Forest of Kyoto and traditional tatami rooms. The 304.64-square-meter space features a sophisticated design language characterized by vertical wooden louvers, stone-veneered bases, and thoughtfully crafted dining zones. The general dining area embodies the essence of the outdoor bamboo forest through carefully positioned curved panels made of hand-cut, stained wooden louvers that frame dining tables, creating intimate dining spaces while maintaining an open atmosphere. The design incorporates VIP rooms that contrast with the main dining area by emphasizing horizontality through gridded washi paper panels and minimalist elements, offering a more secluded dining experience reminiscent of traditional Japanese interiors. The project, completed in 2021 despite significant challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, demonstrates exceptional material selection and spatial organization, featuring wood-textured laminates, vinyl flooring, and innovative use of textured film-sandwiched glass to recreate the effect of traditional washi paper. This sophisticated interior design project, recognized with an Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, successfully creates an immersive dining environment that balances functionality with aesthetic excellence.
