Voltage Spike Suppressors

Voltage spike suppressors, also known as surge protectors, are devices designed to protect electrical equipment from sudden and unexpected increases in voltage, commonly referred to as voltage spikes or surges. These voltage spikes can be caused by a variety of factors, including lightning strikes, power outages, and electrical faults. When a voltage spike occurs, it can cause damage to sensitive electronic equipment such as computers, televisions, and other appliances. Voltage spike suppressors work by diverting excess voltage away from the equipment they are protecting. They typically consist of a metal oxide varistor (MOV) or gas discharge tube (GDT) connected between the power source and the equipment being protected. When a voltage spike occurs, the MOV or GDT conducts the excess voltage away from the equipment and into the ground, preventing it from causing damage. There are several different types of voltage spike suppressors available, ranging from simple power strips with built-in surge protection to more advanced devices that can protect against multiple types of electrical disturbances. Some voltage spike suppressors also include additional features such as line conditioning, which can filter out electrical noise and improve the quality of the power being supplied to the equipment. In addition to protecting against voltage spikes, voltage spike suppressors can also help to extend the lifespan of electrical equipment by reducing wear and tear caused by electrical disturbances. They are commonly used in homes, offices, and industrial settings to protect valuable equipment and prevent downtime caused by equipment failure.
