Vacuumglow

Vacuumglow is an optical phenomenon which occurs when a powerful electric field is applied to a material where electrons are excited and then re-emit light. It is a form of luminescence that is observed when a vacuum is placed between a fluorescent material and an electric field. It is also known as electric glow discharge or E.G.D. In this phenomenon, electrons are accelerated by an electric field and then collide with atoms or molecules in the material, causing the material to glow.

An equivalent of Vacuumglow in other languages would be Röntgenstrahlung (German), Luce di risposta elettrica (Italian), Emisión por descarga eléctrica (Spanish), Kaishou Hikari (Japanese), Leckage Luminiszenz (German), Réponse luminescente (French), Onde

Vacuumglow

The word Vacuumglow has a long history, beginning with its Latin roots; the word is derived from the combination of two Latin words, vacuum and glow. Vacuum refers to an empty space or void, while glow is defined as the emission of light without heat. The current definition of vacuumglow is a luminescent type of gas cloud which appears in an evacuated or low-pressure chamber. It is often associated with other luminescent gases such as neon and argon, and is caused by the ionization of the gas molecules in reaction to the presence of an electric field. It has practical applications in various fields such as astronomy, electrical engineering and materials science. From a morphological perspective, its base word is vacuum, which is an English noun, and its suffix glow, which is an English verb. The word is also pragmatically linked to the ancient practice of lighting a room with candles to provide a source of warmth, which is a metaphor for the luminescence of the vacuumglow in a vacuum chamber.
