Vacuum Forming

Vacuum Forming is a method in product fabrication where a flat sheet of plastic is heated until soft and then shaped over a mold by pulling air out from underneath, creating a tight fit. This process is very good for making lightweight, hollow parts with smooth surfaces, like packaging trays or custom panels. Designers can use different mold textures to give the finished part a special look or feel, such as adding a wood grain or a matte finish. By changing the thickness of the plastic sheet, designers can control how strong or flexible the final product will be. This method can use recycled plastic sheets, which helps with sustainable design goals.
