Unobstructed Freedom Residential House

Unobstructed Freedom Residential House is an innovative residential interior design project that revolutionizes traditional living spaces through its radical open-plan concept, completed in Hong Kong in 2015. This transformative design, created by Regina Kwok, converts a conventional two-bedroom apartment into a singular, expansive living area by eliminating all pre-existing walls, embodying a philosophical statement about transparency and intimacy in modern living. The 400-square-foot space features a uniquely positioned central bathroom with a bathtub as its focal point, surrounded by see-through glass screens that can be concealed with retractable curtains when privacy is desired. The design employs an industrial aesthetic through a sophisticated black, grey, and white color scheme, utilizing materials such as glass, timber, bricks, and engineered stone to create a cohesive visual narrative. The space demonstrates remarkable versatility through multifunctional elements, including an L-shaped table that serves as both a writing desk and dining area, while the open living area can be adapted for various purposes from a studio to a sports area. This Iron A' Design Award-winning project addresses the growing societal concern of technological isolation by deliberately removing physical barriers between spaces, promoting human connection and interaction. The design's innovative approach to spatial organization challenges conventional residential architecture norms while maintaining practical functionality through built-in privacy solutions, such as ceiling-mounted retractable curtains that can temporarily divide the space when needed.
