Umbrella Considerate Bowl is an innovative ceramic tableware design that revolutionizes the traditional bowl-holding experience by introducing a unique waist-edge feature that promotes hygiene and functionality. This thoughtfully engineered bowl, designed by Liyuan Bao, Aihong Wang, Shunren Luo, and Qianqian Ma, addresses two significant challenges in conventional bowl usage: food contamination from thumb contact and tablecloth soiling from spilled liquids. The distinctive design incorporates an elegant, skirt-like protrusion at the bowl's waist, which serves as an alternative gripping point, eliminating the need for fingers to touch the bowl's rim where food contact occurs. Measuring 120mm x 63mm x 70mm, the bowl features a sophisticated misty blue glaze that enhances its aesthetic appeal while maintaining its practical functionality. The concave waist edge ingeniously acts as a catchment area for any overflow, preventing soup or liquid spillage from reaching the table surface. Manufactured through either throwing or molding techniques, the design overcomes significant production challenges, particularly in preventing deformation during the high-temperature firing process, through carefully calculated wall thickness. This innovative tableware piece, which won an Iron A' Design Award in the Bakeware, Tableware, Drinkware and Cookware Design category, represents a significant advancement in ceramic design, combining traditional craftsmanship with modern ergonomic considerations to promote healthier dining practices.
