Umami Luring Restaurant
Umami Luring Restaurant is an innovative interior design project that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of classical elements with modern techniques, creating a distinctive neo-retro dining establishment located in downtown Kaohsiung. Completed in December 2019 by design director Joye Chuang and interior stylist Celine Liou, this 251.23-square-meter hotpot restaurant showcases exceptional spatial design through its thoughtful integration of traditional craftsmanship and contemporary aesthetics. The restaurant's most striking feature is its facade, adorned with custom-made semicircle-shaped tiles produced by a century-old local kiln factory, which serves both aesthetic and functional purposes - symbolizing the warmth of hotpot dining while effectively screening the restaurant from street-level distractions. The interior space demonstrates sophisticated architectural intervention, where the original staircase structure was removed to enhance spatial flow and create a more expansive atmosphere. The design incorporates a central long table that functions as a mini-bar for individual diners, featuring rounded edges for safety and smooth traffic flow. The second floor's ambiance is enhanced by fish-shaped bamboo chandeliers, complemented by bamboo service trays and screens, creating a natural and harmonious dining environment. The project's material palette includes sandy brown hues, varnished Italian special paint creating rustic textures, and strategic use of circular elements in mirrors and lighting fixtures to establish a welcoming atmosphere. This exceptional design earned the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, recognizing its innovative approach to restaurant design and its successful integration of functional requirements with aesthetic excellence.
