Ultra Flex Mesh Series Ufmc Art Direction and Design is a sophisticated visual communication project that revolutionizes the presentation of medical surgical instruments through artistic interpretation. This innovative design project, created by Japanese designer Toshiyuki Kojima, transforms a functional oral surgical treatment instrument into a compelling visual narrative inspired by traditional Noh masks. The design centers around the Ultraflex Mesh series, a titanium plate used in bone loss surgery to support artificial bone implementations, whose uniquely developed mesh structure offers unprecedented flexibility compared to conventional plates. The artistic direction manifests through a striking face-shaped composition created using the actual medical product, mounted on a face mold to demonstrate its remarkable adaptability and freedom of form. The project, executed through UV inkjet printing on premium VENT NOUVEAU V SNOW WHITE paper at dimensions of 728mm by 1030mm, required extensive collaboration between photographer Takashi Mochizuki, copywriter Masayuki Minoda, and sculptor Atsushi Toyoshima. The design successfully overcame significant technical challenges, particularly in processing the 1mm titanium material and achieving optimal lighting and tonal distribution during photography. This groundbreaking approach to medical product visualization earned recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design category, acknowledging its innovative fusion of technical precision with artistic expression.
