UANDERFUL Restaurant-Bar is an innovative culinary and architectural fusion establishment that seamlessly integrates South American culture with Asian techniques and traditions, situated in a classic American-style building in Bucharest, Romania. This Silver A' Design Award-winning interior design project, completed in 2017, represents a sophisticated blend of three distinct cultural influences - American, Asian, and South American - within a single cohesive space. The restaurant's design philosophy centers on creating a transformative dining environment that transports guests from the bustling streets of Bucharest to the distant shores of Peru or Chile, achieved through thoughtful architectural elements and interior design choices. The space features a distinctive New York and San Francisco-inspired architectural framework, which has been carefully adapted to accommodate an eclectic aesthetic that serves as a backdrop for innovative gastronomy. The interior design scheme was meticulously developed over six months by a team led by Mihai Popescu, incorporating elements of art deco and modern design sensibilities while maintaining a delicate balance between classic and contemporary aesthetics. Notable design features include the use of brass accents and kinetic elements that contribute to the space's dynamic atmosphere. The restaurant's design concept acknowledges the evolution of modern dining spaces as multi-purpose venues that facilitate social interaction, cultural exchange, and sensory exploration beyond mere gastronomy. This innovative approach to restaurant design earned recognition at the A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award, highlighting its excellence in spatial organization, material selection, and cultural integration.
