Typeface Classification
Typeface classification is the division of fonts into categories based on their visual characteristics. Typefaces are typically divided into two main categories: serif and sans-serif. Serif typefaces have a small line attached to the end of each letter, while sans-serif typefaces do not. Other categories of typefaces include script, blackletter, and display typefaces. Each category is further divided into sub-categories, such as old-style, transitional, modern, slab-serif, and neo-grotesque. By categorizing typefaces, designers are able to quickly identify and select the appropriate font for a given project.
