TWIST Dinner Set is an innovative dining ensemble that masterfully integrates traditional Chinese philosophical concepts with contemporary design aesthetics. Created by Chinese designer Chelsea Chen, this sophisticated collection embodies the ancient Chinese theory of a square earth and spherical heavens, manifesting the delicate interplay between round and square forms, representing the fundamental duality of Yin and Yang. The set comprises uniquely twisted bowls that transform from round to square shapes, plates that conversely transition from square to round configurations, and distinctively twisted chopsticks, all working in harmonious concert to express both contradiction and coherence in their design language. The collection's aesthetic is enhanced through the thoughtful application of traditional Chinese glazing techniques, including celadon and celeste glazes, paying homage to classical Chinese ceramics while maintaining a modern sensibility. Each piece is meticulously crafted to dimensions of 180mm in width and depth, with a height of 80mm, ensuring practical functionality alongside its philosophical underpinnings. The design incorporates innovative features such as integrated horizontal chopstick grooves in the plates, demonstrating a careful consideration for user experience and ergonomic functionality. This exceptional dinner set, which was developed between July 2016 and February 2017, earned recognition with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category, acknowledging its outstanding contribution to contemporary dining design.
