Twin Lotus Murals In Noi Bai Airport Murals

Twin Lotus Murals in Noi Bai airport Murals is a monumental public art installation that transformed the facades of Terminal 2 at Noi Bai International Airport, creating an iconic welcome gateway to Hanoi, Vietnam. Completed in January 2019 under the artistic direction of Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy, these twin murals span an impressive 720 square meters, with each mural measuring 15 meters in height and 24 meters in width. The artwork depicts Vietnam's national flower, the lotus, in full bloom, rendered in weatherproof paint to ensure longevity in outdoor conditions. The murals' strategic placement alongside reflecting pools creates a mesmerizing visual effect, as the painted lotuses are mirrored in both the water and the terminal's glass windows, effectively quadrupling their visual impact and creating an illusion of endless natural beauty. The creation of these murals required exceptional technical precision, involving the careful scaling of initial 1.5-square-meter sketches to their final monumental dimensions, and the coordination of ten artists working simultaneously on eight-story scaffolding. The project, which garnered the Golden A' Design Award in the Social Design category in 2019, represents a significant achievement in public art integration within transportation infrastructure, serving as a cultural touchpoint for over 18 million annual international visitors. The murals exemplify the harmonious blend of traditional Vietnamese symbolism with contemporary artistic expression, creating a tranquil and culturally rich first impression for arriving travelers while demonstrating the transformative power of large-scale public art in enhancing architectural spaces.
