Tuya Restaurant
Tuya Restaurant is an exemplary architectural and interior design project completed in 2019, situated in Vienna, Austria, that masterfully integrates Austrian architectural heritage with contemporary design elements. The establishment spans an impressive 1,000 square meters, with 600 square meters dedicated to public areas and 400 square meters allocated to staff facilities. Designed by Romanian architects Mihai Popescu and Ovidiu Balan, this sophisticated dining venue showcases a harmonious blend of Art Deco and Postmodern aesthetics spread across two distinct floors. The design carefully preserves and enhances the building's historical elements, including the iconic circular staircase created by renowned Austrian architect Hans Hollein and original marble flooring, while introducing innovative custom-made features that evoke the ambiance of the French Riviera. The interior's distinctive character is achieved through meticulous craftsmanship, featuring solid beech wood wall coverings with precision-cut triangular stripes, an elaborate ceiling installation comprising over 3,000 individually sized glass tubes, and an intricate terrazzo floor incorporating three kilometers of brass profiling. The spatial organization follows a thoughtful progression, with the ground floor housing the bar and lounge area, the first floor dedicated to the main restaurant space, and the basement accommodating restroom facilities. The project, which earned the prestigious Golden A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category in 2020, represents a remarkable achievement in preserving architectural heritage while creating a contemporary dining destination that seamlessly merges 1970s elegance with modern sophistication.
