Tsinghua EE Office Building is a significant architectural renovation project that exemplifies the harmonious integration of technological advancement and educational heritage through thoughtful interior design. The project, completed in 2022, encompasses a comprehensive transformation of 1,767 square meters across multiple floors, focusing on reimagining public spaces while preserving the building's essential academic functions. Designed by Yao Lu, Zhou Yun, and Zhou Xu, the renovation employs the concept of energy transmission as its central theme, manifested through innovative spatial arrangements, interactive installations, and carefully selected materials. The design strategy involves opening previously enclosed spaces and introducing distinctive E cubes throughout the building, which serve multiple functions including exhibition areas, reception spaces, seminar rooms, and quiet zones. The renovation particularly emphasizes the integration of blue glass boxes in the entrance lobby, creating a sophisticated interplay of materials including aluminum plates, glass, wood, and steel to reflect the building's technological character. The project, which garnered recognition with a Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, successfully addresses the challenge of maintaining operational continuity during construction while creating an environment that celebrates both technological innovation and institutional heritage. The design's particular attention to Environment-Behavior Studies resulted in an open, collaborative atmosphere that facilitates meaningful interactions between faculty and students while preserving spaces for individual contemplation and research.
