Travelling Trunks
Travelling trunks, also known as steamer trunks or simply trunks, are large, rectangular containers used for transporting personal belongings during travel. These trunks were popular during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when long-distance travel was becoming more common. Made from a variety of materials including wood, metal, and leather, travelling trunks were designed to be sturdy and durable, with reinforced corners and edges to protect their contents during transit. Travelling trunks were typically designed with a hinged lid that opened from the top, allowing for easy access to the contents inside. Many trunks also featured a removable tray or drawers for storing smaller items such as jewelry or toiletries. Handles on either side of the trunk made it easy to carry, while metal clasps and locks provided security for the items inside. As travel became more accessible and luggage became more standardized, the popularity of travelling trunks began to decline. However, they remain popular among collectors and vintage enthusiasts, and are often used as decorative pieces in homes and businesses.
