Totem Appliances Assembly System

Totem Appliances Assembly System is an innovative vertical kitchen system that revolutionizes traditional kitchen design through its modular and stackable approach to appliance organization. Designed by Andrea Cingoli with engineering support from Luigi Carbone and modeling by Umbertino La Sorda, this system represents a significant advancement in kitchen furniture design, earning recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Kitchen Furniture, Equipment and Fixtures Design category. The system's fundamental concept draws inspiration from traditional totem poles, translating their vertical stacking principle into a practical, modern kitchen solution. Each module, measuring 650mm in width and depth with variable heights from 150mm to 900mm, can accommodate various kitchen appliances including ovens, refrigerators, dishwashers, sinks, and coffee machines. The system's distinctive feature lies in its versatility, allowing components to be accessed from multiple sides - up to four different directions - making it suitable for diverse spatial configurations. Constructed using a sophisticated combination of electrified container modules with metal structural elements and customizable exterior coatings, the system employs modular extruded, pre-folded, and calendered components that are securely fastened together. This innovative design, which began development in February 2019 and was completed in February 2022 in Teramo, addresses contemporary spatial challenges in various settings from compact urban apartments to office spaces and commercial environments. A notable technical feature is the inclusion of an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), ensuring continuous operation during power outages and maintaining critical functions such as refrigeration. The system's minimal and elegant aesthetic, combined with its practical functionality, represents a forward-thinking solution for modern living spaces where flexibility and space efficiency are paramount.
