Total Quality Management
Total Quality Management (TQM) is a comprehensive system of management and organizational practices that ensure quality in all aspects of a product or service. It is focused on the customer and requires that all processes, from product design to delivery, meet or exceed customer expectations. Designers use TQM to design products and services that are of the highest quality, cost-effective, and meet customer requirements. TQM includes activities such as process audits, benchmarking, customer feedback, surveys, and cross-disciplinary teams, which all help ensure that the product or service meets the customer’s needs. TQM also requires continual improvement of processes and services in order to ensure quality. Quality is a key factor in customer satisfaction and success, and TQM is an important part of the design process.
