Toilet Paper Roll Redesign Toilet Paper Roll
Toilet Paper Roll Redesign Toilet Paper Roll is an innovative sustainable product design that reimagines the conventional toilet paper roll structure to address hygiene concerns and environmental impact. Created by designers Sheng-Hung Lee and Josipa Dodig, this ingenious design transforms the traditional cardboard roll into a self-standing holder through a clever structural modification, eliminating the need for separate toilet paper holders while preventing the roll from coming into contact with potentially contaminated surfaces. The design features a unique compressible structure made from disinfected recycled paper pulp, incorporating a pre-cut dash line that allows users to create a stable base by inverting the bottom portion, revealing a wavy support structure that elevates the roll. This thoughtful innovation addresses multiple challenges in bathroom hygiene and sustainability, as the design prevents the paper from collecting dust, bacteria, and other contaminants that commonly accumulate when rolls are placed on random surfaces. The product measures 110mm in length, width, and 100mm in height, weighing approximately 1000g, and incorporates a 70-30 ratio of hardwood to softwood fibers for optimal strength and softness. After use, the structure can be easily compressed to minimize waste volume, demonstrating a commitment to environmental consciousness. This design, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in the Disposable and Single-Use Product Design category, exemplifies how thoughtful engineering can transform everyday objects into more hygienic, sustainable, and user-friendly solutions.
