Tofana Hotel is an architecturally distinctive hospitality establishment located in San Cassiano, Badia Valley, Italy, that exemplifies an innovative approach to alpine hotel design through its harmonious integration with the surrounding mountain landscape. The structure, designed by Lukas Rungger and Marina Gousia, represents a remarkable transformation from a conventional compact building into a layered structural landscape that organically reflects its mountainous environment. This platinum A' Design Award-winning project, completed in 2016, spans 2,470 square meters and features a striking exterior design characterized by surrounding terraces and vertical connections through external staircases and ramps. The hotel's architectural concept draws inspiration from the athletic spirit of its owner family, abstractly interpreting the mountain silhouette in its facade design while functioning as a sophisticated base camp for adventurous guests. The interior design thoughtfully mirrors the natural landscape of the Badia Valley, incorporating a color palette of blues, greens, and browns that evoke alpine meadows, biotopes, moss forests, and rock caves. The facility encompasses multiple levels of carefully planned spaces, including public areas on the ground floor, generously sized guest rooms of at least 25 square meters with panoramic balconies, and a comprehensive wellness center featuring fitness facilities, saunas, and a dedicated yoga room on the upper floors. Distinctive design elements include custom iron wire lampshades reminiscent of traditional alpine hut oil lanterns, playful tile arrangements that evoke nostalgia, and mirrors inscribed with local Ladine dialect, all contributing to the hotel's unique character and cultural connection.
