Tiger 2022 Ceramic Tableware is an innovative ceramic design collection that masterfully blends traditional Chinese cultural symbolism with contemporary internationalist aesthetics, created by designers Chao Yang, Zhang Chen, and Zhu Xuguang. This sophisticated tableware set, which earned recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Bakeware, Tableware, Drinkware and Cookware Design category, represents a significant achievement in cultural fusion and artistic expression. The collection features meticulously crafted pieces including cups, teapots, and plates of varying sizes, all produced using traditional Jingdezhen blue and white porcelain techniques and fired at 1300 degrees Celsius. The design incorporates multiple symbolic elements celebrating the Year of the Tiger, including Han Dynasty tiger motifs, calligraphic interpretations of the word tiger, and complementary English text, creating a harmonious dialogue between Eastern and Western design sensibilities. The comprehensive set includes precisely dimensioned pieces: cups measuring 80mm in length and 95mm in height, teapots at 70mm by 100mm, and plates ranging from 200mm to 300mm in length, with additional coffee cups and saucers completing the collection. The design process involved hand-creating graphic elements related to the tiger theme, transforming them into blue and white compositions, and arranging them in rhythmic patterns on the ceramic surfaces. This tableware collection, developed between June and December 2021, represents a significant innovation in zodiac-themed ceramics, demonstrating how traditional cultural elements can be reinterpreted through a contemporary design lens while maintaining their cultural significance and practical functionality.
