Ti Me Taking Turns

Ti Me Taking turns is an innovative playground equipment and educational tool designed to foster time management skills and social interaction among children in public play spaces. This thoughtfully conceived device functions as an interactive timer that allows children to set and manage their playtime durations on various playground equipment, with a maximum time limit ensuring fair usage distribution. The design, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in the Education, Teaching Aid and Training Content Design category, features a mechanical timing mechanism housed within a child-friendly form factor measuring 270mm x 270mm x 750mm, complemented by accompanying seats of 300mm x 300mm x 280mm. Constructed from a combination of wood and safe plastics, the device operates through an intuitive rotating mechanism where children turn the hat-like upper portion counterclockwise to set their desired play duration, up to a maximum of four minutes. When the allocated time expires, the device emits an audible signal, teaching children about time boundaries and turn-taking in a playful context. This educational tool addresses common playground challenges such as queue management and equipment sharing, while simultaneously developing children's understanding of time management, social negotiation, and mutual respect. The design's significance lies in its ability to transform potentially contentious playground situations into structured learning opportunities, helping children develop essential life skills through play-based learning. The innovative approach taken by the designers focuses on creating an interactive reference point that children can collectively acknowledge and respect, thereby fostering a more harmonious playground environment while building fundamental time management capabilities.
