Third Space Residence is an innovative residential design concept that reimagines living spaces through the lens of bistro culture and social interaction, exemplifying a sophisticated blend of postmodern design principles and functional spatial organization. This 149-square-meter interior design project, winner of the Bronze A' Design Award in Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, introduces a revolutionary approach to residential architecture by incorporating the concept of 'third space' - a realm distinct from work and home environments, dedicated to personal rejuvenation and social engagement. The design masterfully divides the space into three distinct zones: a stage area, practice area, and rest area, each serving unique purposes while maintaining a cohesive aesthetic narrative. The stage area, comprising the living and dining rooms, features European-style retro chandeliers, blue-green sofas, and strategically placed glass cabinets, creating an atmospheric setting for social gatherings. The practice area, manifested in the study space, employs scattered transparent shelves and black leather chairs to cultivate a serene environment for focused activities. The rest area, dedicated to the bedroom, showcases an intricate interplay of dark and light wallpapers, demonstrating meticulous attention to detail and spatial harmony. The project's material palette includes steel brushed veneer, cloth curtains, acid-etched antique mirrors, chiseled stone, and embossed glass, all carefully selected to support the postmodern design approach while paying homage to the historical context of its location near the Laojie River. Through its innovative use of collaging, overlapping, and dislocation techniques, this design successfully creates a sophisticated living environment that transcends traditional residential boundaries, offering a unique interpretation of luxury lifestyle while maintaining functional practicality.
