Thidamoon Hotel is an architecturally significant hospitality project located in Amami Oshima, Japan, distinguished by its profound cultural integration and innovative interior design approach. The hotel's most notable feature is its strategic positioning that offers views of Tategami, a sacred rock formation traditionally revered as a divine waypoint where deities rest before reaching the island from the sea. This Bronze A' Design Award-winning project, designed by Go Fujita, exemplifies a harmonious blend of contemporary hospitality design with deep-rooted local traditions and materials. The interior design, particularly in its suite room named En, showcases an innovative application of locally sourced materials, including sea sand and coral collected from Amami Oshima's waters, creating an authentic sense of place. The 61.2-square-meter space, measuring 9000mm x 6800mm x 2400mm, offers panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and the iconic Tategami rock, creating an immersive experience that transitions from sunrise to moonlit nights. The project overcame significant logistical challenges due to its remote island location, requiring mainland craftsmen's expertise to achieve its sophisticated design execution.
