The Transparent City Apparels
The Transparent City Apparels is an avant-garde fashion collection that masterfully interprets urban architectural elements through contemporary garment design, created by fashion designer Seo Ah Lee. This sophisticated collection, which earned the Silver A' Design Award in Fashion, Apparel and Garment Design category, comprises two men's pieces and one women's piece that brilliantly translate the geometric patterns and structural elements of metropolitan architecture into wearable art. The collection's distinctive aesthetic is achieved through an innovative combination of lamb's leather and custom-developed organza, materials chosen specifically to capture the interplay of solid architectural forms and transparent spaces characteristic of modern cityscapes. The designer's interpretation of New York City's architectural landscape is particularly evident in the three-dimensional leather construction techniques that emulate building facades, while the strategic use of organza creates ethereal shadow effects reminiscent of glass-clad skyscrapers. The garments, produced in sizes 38 for men and 36 for women, showcase exceptional craftsmanship in their construction, particularly in the challenging execution of three-dimensional leather lines. The collection's conceptual foundation draws from the designer's experiences in New York City, where the juxtaposition of concrete walls and window frames' sharp cuts inspired a masculine silhouette with minimal aesthetic sensibilities. This work, completed in 2012 and presented at Mercedes Benz fashion week, represents a significant achievement in translating architectural concepts into fashion design, demonstrating innovative material manipulation and pattern-making techniques while maintaining a strong connection to contemporary urban aesthetics.
