The Solitude Residential
The Solitude Residential is an award-winning interior design project that exemplifies the harmonious integration of contemporary living spaces with traditional Chinese philosophical concepts. Located in New Taipei City, Taiwan, this 141-square-meter residential space masterfully incorporates three essential design elements: calming blue spaces that define structural areas, prominent metal accents that create linear definition, and warm marble textures that enhance surface aesthetics. Inspired by the Chinese idiom zhèn shí shù liú, which describes a hermit's solitary existence in nature, the design thoughtfully balances natural elements with modern living requirements through its sophisticated material palette including titanium-plated metal, natural marble tile, handmade mineral paint, wood veneer, and ceramic tile. The project, completed between December 2017 and January 2018 by designers Yen Pin Chen, Kai sheng Yu, and Wei Lien Hsu, features an innovative approach to spatial organization that maximizes functionality while maintaining minimalist principles. The design's distinctive use of negative space between sectors creates enhanced circulation and layered dimensionality throughout the three-bedroom, two-bathroom residence. The thoughtful integration of the living room, dining room, and kitchen promotes family interaction while preserving private spaces, demonstrating exceptional space planning. The project's outstanding achievement in interior design was recognized with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, acknowledging its excellence in creative spatial solutions and material innovation. The design successfully addresses the challenges of urban living by creating a peaceful sanctuary that promotes harmony between nature, humanity, and artistic expression through its careful material selection and color scheme dominated by serene blue tones.
